Oh C'mon, I'm just teasing you. Go ahead and bombard me with Questions.

1. What is the objective behind MyChineseConnections?
We are selling 5-year uninterrupted and guaranteed advertising spaces. We call them auspicious boxes (ie Prosperity , Longevity and Vitality). It costs a one-off payment of USD100 per box which works out to approximately less than 6 cents a day for 5-year advertising. One box consists of 100 pixels. You can buy as many boxes as you wish.

You can display your company's logo or image on the box space purchased together with a link to your company's website. All these will be highlighted in either Prosperity, Longevity and Vitality FOR 5 YEARS continuously from the date of purchase.

In addition, your company's name, products & services, URL (website) and number of boxes purchased will be displayed under Network page FOR 5 YEARS continuously from the date of purchase.

2. Who is behind this ?

My surname Qin follows the Qin dynasty by Qin Shihuangdi, China's first Emperor and Zhao Tang crafted by my late beloved grandma literally meaning Endless Big Hall carries a deeper meaning of "capacity to welcome all possibilities in life". My late grandfather came to Malaysia from Canton , China in the early 20th century when he was in his early teens. Presently, I am a bored-to-bits Financial Controller. Hobbies include English Premier League ( die-hard Liverpool fan ), rearing aquarium fish (african cichlids, Oscars, mahseer ), practising Qigong (beginner) and rearing dogs ( 1 golden retriever, 2 mongrels). I'm English educated, but probably due to my ancestral roots, I have always appreciated Chinese customs and history. My grandparents and parents brought up myself and my 5 elder sisters practising Chinese customs, but with a western outlook. And as I grew older, I did some soul-searching and began to increasingly discover my ethnic roots. I have in fact started learning Mandarin. My girlfriend, good humouredly calls me a banana - white on the inside but yellow outside. I know it all sounds geeky and superficial but I can assure you I am genuine in my words. It's my 1st attempt at creating a website and on a theme I feel connected to and it is something I truly believe in.
Note : the website is registered under my fully-owned company MyChineseConnections Ltd .

3. How did you get started on this idea and what’s the inspiration behind it?

Confucius said there are 3 methods to gain wisdom, first by reflection, which is the noblest; second by imitation which is easiest and third by experience which is bitterest

I chose the easy way and imitated what I reckoned to be the latest craze ie selling pixels on homepages. I hit upon the idea while surfing UK’s The Sun Newspaper Online for English football news and out of the blue came across an article on a lad’s idea of selling pixels. The sheer bravado and brilliance behind the idea flabbergasted me. Decided to vary it somewhat by adding a theme and sell auspicious boxes (boxed advertising space- each box is 100 pixels) on dedicated pages instead of pixels on homepage. The theme was chosen as it reflects my own journey in search of my ethnicity. In a way, you could say the late Alex Haley, a New Yorker who traced his ancestry back to Africa inspired me. Admittedly, I didn’t read his novel but I enjoyed watching Roots (can never forget Kunta Kinte), one of my all-time favorite TV series.
Just for fun, have I also added JustOnePage(s) and MyChineseNames which give adopted Chinese names since my “gweilo” friends have been asking for it. Note : gweilo means foreign devil which is a somewhat affectionate and ahem!! naughty term we Cantonese ( a chinese dialect ) like to use to call westerners

4. Why sell so many boxes and give them such funny names?

Each box consists of 100 pixels and the names were chosen for auspicious sounding reason. Cracked my brains a bit and thought hmmm !!! Prosperity, Longevity and Vitality might sound appealing without going overboard. In total there are approximately 30,000 boxes carrying a sales value of USD3 million which is my target.

5. What is the benefit of buying your boxes. Why should I buy?
I am sure you can always advertise your own website in major newspapers and/or other websites for which you probably pay tens of thousands dollars or more for 30 days or less of advertising space.
My offer is this: For as low as USD100 per box, you will have your image/logos displayed and a link to your website on MyChineseConnections for a MINIMUM of 5 years . Imagine how much you will have to pay for advertising for 5 years continuously AND it's commission-free . My website, due to its combination of one-of-a kind creation and theme has the potential to draw in traffic which will in turn filter down to your website link. When someone enters your link, MyChineseConnections will NOT charge any commission.

6. Can we provide affiliate links/adverts to MyChineseConnections?
Strictly limited to the Prosperity, Longevity and Vitality pages (and only when you purchase the boxes). Not on my Homepage, JustOnePage(s) or MyChineseNames. The reason to keep these pages links/adverts free is obvious enough but also to enable user-friendly reading without the distracting temptation to jump to a link (except of course when you are in Prosperity, Longevity and Vitality) .

7. Aren’t you over-glorifying Chinese and limiting the appeal of your website?
That's not my intention. In my eyes, every culture or custom is beautiful and unique. Through friends I have met in my university days, work-related travels and holidays abroad, I have had opportunities sampling them.
So, I am hoping to share with you my own experience and love for Chinese-themed topics. I planned this website to reach out to everyone regardless of race or ethnicity. I'm confident there is bound to be something Chinese-themed that you find enjoyable. That's why I put in JustOnePages for quick reads to capture the imagination of those who have yet to sample Chinese-themed topics.

8. Since the theme is Chinese, should my website be in Mandarin and my products Chinese-themed?
No. Not at all. You can have it in English, Spanish, Korean, French, Tamil, Greek etc but it can do you no harm having an optional Mandarin version like what I have done. This will potentially draw you a bigger audience. Think China 's 1.3 billion population and its sizeable 111 million internet users as at end 2005. You decide for yourself.
You can be a merchant of any goods & services under the sun as this website reaches out to everyone.

My target market = Your target market = WORLDWIDE.

9. How long will this site be online?
I guarantee that it will be up for at least 5 years from the date of your purchase. Rest assured, the guarantee is reinforced by the fact that MyChineseConnections Ltd has already paid the hosting company GoDaddy.com for the 5 years or more hosting and domain fees. We will continue doing so to meet the minimum 5 year guarantee. See the confirmation from Alert Site below. We have registered until 26 January 2012.


10. What’s with all this Confucius and Lao Tzu thing? Stop exploiting these guys !
Ha- I am a big fan of ancient philosophers. I love these guys and I really mean it. Just needed respected and powerful allies who have worldwide appeal and can lend an aura of wisdom.

11. How do we proceed to buy boxes?
1st step - click on the Buy Boxes link at the top of your screen and then proceed to choose the type of box or boxes you would like to buy (ie. Prosperity, Longevity or Vitality). Proceed to click on any vacant boxe(s) () to mark the starting point of your boxes.

Step 2- Enter your personal details and description (eg your products or services) of your boxes.

Step 3- Once you have entered the required details for Step 2, you will need to select Paypal, a secured payment site which accepts MasterCard, Visa and American Express.

Step 4-Upon completion of Step 3, you will be transferred to Paypal site for further processing.

Step 5 - Once we receive the approval of the payment (which should take less than 1 minute), you will be required to submit the image file for the boxes you purchased. Don't worry if you do not have an image file. We have free image files for you to choose when you have paid/entered step 5. And that's all there is to it. Simple!
